I attended Jewish preschool at the JCC before embarking on my TT tutelage in 1997. I remained at TT until completing grade 6 in 2004 and look back on this period as some of my most formative years. During this time, I made lifelong friends, one of who’s wedding I am attending this summer.
Some of my fondest memories are of the Purim carnival, learning about Israel from Tslila Barzel, the scholastic book fair, and the hot lunch program.
I felt my education was so comprehensive and complete after TT that I thought I might be finished with learning institutions altogether. But despite my best efforts, my parents convinced me that I would need to continue going to school. I attended NAIT and received a diploma in the culinary arts in 2013. During my time at culinary school, a small 30-seat restaurant called Corso 32 opened. I began working there in 2012 and just celebrated my 10th year with the Corso Group as the Chef and part owner of both Corso 32 and our sister restaurant, Bar Bricco. Although TT did not prepare me for the world beyond kashrut, I can confidently say that the restaurants have plenty of “kosher-style” dishes.
Since the pandemic started, Corso 32 has been closed, but we are preparing to re-open it in the fall. If you do find yourself coming in for dinner, please ask for me so I can come out and say hello.
