How you can make an impact in Jewish Edmonton

As a Talmud Torah parent, chances are you or someone you know has benefited from programs like PJ Library, received support through the Integrated Bursary Program (IBP), or attended community events that celebrate Jewish life and culture. What you might not know is that behind these programs—and many others—is the Jewish Federation of Edmonton, powered by the generosity of donors through the United Jewish Appeal (UJA).

UJA is our community’s central fundraising campaign. We generate philanthropic resources to ensure that our whole community—and everyone in it—thrives today, tomorrow, and for years to come. Bringing together donors, agencies, partners, and volunteer leadership, we support Jewish life in Edmonton and ensure that everyone in our community can thrive. Whether it’s helping a child attend Talmud Torah or Jewish summer camp, providing security for our institutions, or connecting families to Jewish experiences, your UJA gift makes it all possible.

Raising Jewish children today comes with both joys and challenges. Through UJA, Federation provides stable funding to programs that nurture Jewish identity from the earliest years. PJ Library, for example, delivers free Jewish books to families, sparking meaningful conversations and traditions at home. The IBP helps families afford Jewish education and camp—two of the strongest predictors of lifelong Jewish engagement.

But it doesn’t stop there. When a family needs help, they often need it from more than one place. UJA ensures that we and our partners—including Jewish Family Services, BBYO, and Camp BB Riback—can continue offering vital services, from mental health support to leadership development for teens.

UJA supports all of Jewish Edmonton

Jewish Federation’s unique vantage point means we see the full picture of our community’s needs, and can bring together experts, agencies, volunteers, and donors to respond to urgent challenges and invest in long-term solutions. We’re also the central hub for advocacy, community security, and building relationships with government, law enforcement at all levels, and other faith-based and ethno-cultural communities.

Your UJA gift supports this work. It’s much more than a donation—it’s a commitment to the well-being of every Jewish person in Edmonton and beyond. And because it’s collective giving, your gift joins with others to have a greater impact than any one donation could alone.

We live in uncertain times. Antisemitism is rising, and our overall community’s security needs are growing. At the same time, more Jewish families are moving to Edmonton, seeking connection and support. UJA helps us meet these challenges head-on—by funding security infrastructure, advocacy efforts, and programs that welcome newcomers and strengthen Jewish pride.

We also support our extended family in Israel, especially in our partnership region in the Upper Galilee, which has been deeply affected by Hezbollah rocket attacks and long-term displacement. Through UJA, we help rebuild lives and communities there, just as we do here at home.

So, when you give to UJA, you’re supporting your community. You’re supporting your children’s future. And you’re helping build a Jewish Edmonton that we can all be proud of—today, tomorrow, and for years to come. Every dollar you give to UJA touches lives—maybe even your own. It helps ensure that Jewish children can grow up with strong identities, that families can access the support they need, and that our community remains vibrant, safe, and connected.
