LEGO Artist-in-residence

Talmud Torah’s School Council funded an exciting, week-long, in-school S.T.E.A.M.* enrichment program from January 19–23, 2026, featuring artist and LEGO builder Sam Malmberg of GroovyBones Bricks. Sam has partnered with Only Together Events, an Edmonton company who has formed a strong relationship with Edmonton Public Schools, allowing for unique LEGO events offered at schools around the city.

Students from Kindergarten to Grade 6 took part in a collaborative project aligned with Tu B’Shevat and the theme of environmental awareness.

Each class had one hour to contribute to a shared display, creating animals that live in different biomes. The artist guided students throughout the process, encouraging creativity and collaboration.

Teachers extended the learning with a related writing assignment or lesson. The completed project was displayed in the school library for families to enjoy.

Sam’s thoughtfully designed workshops inspire student innovation, problem-solving, and teamwork, all while having fun with LEGO bricks. His in-school S.T.E.A.M. programs bring the magic of hands-on learning into the classroom.

Sam is widely recognized for his exceptional talent within the LEGO community and appeared as a competitor on Season 4 of the television show LEGO Masters.

*S.T.E.A.M. is an approach to learning that integrates Science, Technology, Engineering, the Arts, and Mathematics to guide student inquiry, dialogue, and critical thinking.
