What our families have to say...

(An email was sent out to our families from Irene St. Savard, Director of the ELC, on the one year anniversary of our closure due to the COVID pandemic. This is one parent’s response.)

Just wanted to say a huge THANK YOU right back to you and all the staff at TT and the ELC. I can’t even imagine how stressful that whole situation was for each staff member when all the uncertainty that stemmed from the pandemic was unraveling. You guys were absolutely on it though. You provided timely, honest communication and transparency throughout the whole process. You adapted to the changes and showed resilience, especially as things changed from day to day, or even hour to hour! You made changes in order to provide a safe environment for the kiddos and staff to return to, so that everyone could continue to thrive. We are so grateful for all that you and your staff have done, so thank YOU!

Just because…I wanted to write you to let you know that your staff are amazing!

[My child] used to go to a different daycare, so I have something to compare to.

The TT staff really seem to care about teaching the kids rather than just trying to control the chaos that invariably comes in a room full of kiddos. Everything I have seen shows there is a clear and consistent approach to communicating with the children as well. The gentle approach deals with discussing why actions are good or bad, rather than just trying to stop bad behaviour or redirecting.

I am also blown away by how much [my child] seems to be learning and by the multitude of activities they get involved in on a daily basis.

ELC Receives Award

Mazal Tov to Osi Goldsand, our Kinderarts educator, who has received an award for the ELC from the ASaP program (Access, Support and Participation) through GRIT (Getting Ready for Inclusion Today). The ASaP Project focuses on social emotional learning in the classroom. It is designed to increase skills in early childhood educators by using evidence based professional practices to strengthen educators ability to: create high quality responsive environments, intentionally teach emotional development, and respond to challenging behaviors. We have been part of the project for 2 years and in that short time have reached DEMONSTRATION SITE STATUS. Other centers, teachers, or educators who are interested in learning more about social emotional support in the classroom are invited to come to our class, and talk to our educators to receive guidance and see what it’s all about.

Childcare Philosophy

We run a play-based program where we feel that children learn best when the program is flexible, stimulating, fun, and based on the interests of each child. The ELC strives to meet the needs of the children both as individuals and as a group. The various facets of the program address the intellectual and cognitive development, and the emotional, social, and physical needs of the children. Throughout the day children have an opportunity for structured group activities such as circle time, music, art, as well as free time in which they may choose from a variety of play centers including: blocks, manipulatives, dramatic play, table activities and sensory play. Children will have an opportunity for physical activity each day, either outside or in the gym, dependent on the weather.

Judaic Programming

In addition to the core components of early childhood development, the program curriculum will incorporate experiences involving the use of Hebrew language, celebration of Shabbat and other Jewish holidays, Jewish customs and traditions. A strong and positive identification with Israel is woven into the entire early learning environment. The notion of “Judaism as an integrated part of everyday life” is incorporated into all our programs.

Kinderarts Program

Kinderarts is an optional half day program for children of kindergarten age (5 years). We teach children through creative play, arts and crafts, science experiments, music and movement, and special events. We believe that a warm supportive environment, where children’s curiosity is aroused and where children are free to make their own choices, will only lead to a love of learning and self confidence. The learn-through-play philosophy fosters such an environment and encourages self expression, creativity, and success. Our classroom activities are geared towards both the group and the individual needs of the children to ensure that each child has many positive experiences.

Kinderarts runs in the afternoons, following the morning kindergarten program.
