Talmud Torah Early Learning Centre (TTELC) COVID-19 Policy

Last updated: September 6, 2022

Effective as of: September 6, 2022

The safety and well-being of our students are our top priorities at the TTELC. Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, we continue to follow the Government of Alberta’s “Guidance for preschool, day care and out of school care (child care)” and benchmark against the guidelines of other child care centres within the Edmonton area.

Please note, if parents violate the TTELC COVID-19 Policy (that is, they knowingly bring their child to the centre while the child is displaying signs and symptoms of COVID-19, or if the child is a known household contact), they shall be given a written warning. A second violation may result in cancellation of services.

Screening for Illness

Staying home when sick remains an important way to care for those around us. Before coming to TTELC each day, families must check their child to determine whether they can attend or if they should stay home.

Educators: Fever, cough, shortness of breath, runny nose or sore throat, loss of sense of smell and/or taste

  1. If any of these symptoms are present – STAY HOME for a minimum of 48 HOURS. If additional symptoms appear, isolate for 5 days and take a rapid test, if available. The TTELC Director has rapid test kits to
    1. If NEGATIVE, finish your 48 hours at home, and when feeling well and symptoms resolve, return to
    2. If POSITIVE, contact TTELC Director, isolate for 5 days and return only when feeling better and symptoms have resolved.
    3. Children: Fever, cough, shortness of breath, loss of sense of smell and/or tasteIf any of these symptoms are present – STAY HOME for a minimum of 48 HOURS and monitor for additional symptoms. If parents would like a rapid test kit, our TTELC Director can provide one, as supply

  3. If a child returns to care after illness, but continues to present symptoms, they will be sent home to re-start the 48 hours.

Families are reminded to contact the ELC office at 780-483-0170 if your child is staying home sick.

We will re-evaluate guidelines at the beginning of each month to maintain best practices and the safest environment for your children.

Another Topic Heading

While provincial mandates change over time, TTELC will continue to implement a cautious approach and enforce the above practices until further notice. Communication with parents is key – if you have any questions, please contact the TTELC Director.

Children with Pre-Existing Conditions Families should supply a doctor’s note about any pre-existing conditions their child has and the related symptoms.
Showing Signs of Illness While at the Centre If a child or educator becomes ill while attending ELC, they will be removed from the room, or distanced at least two

(2) meters from others, and need to be picked up immediately.

In the case where a child becomes ill and needs to go home, or a room or the entire centre must close, the centre will allow up to 90 minutes from first contact with a parent or emergency contact for the child to be picked up. The ELC Director may give parents more time depending on the circumstance. If the child has not been picked up within the allotted time frame the centre will call the families emergency contacts. Should the parent refuse to pick up their child, or if the child has not been picked up within the allotted time frame, it may result in a cancellation of childcare services for the family.

Identification of COVID-19 in the Centre Educators and parents are asked to notify us about a positive COVID-19 test (either rapid or PCR). If we are notified of a positive case, we will share that there is a positive case, and which room, with all ELC and OSC families. TTELC will keep a log of ill children and educators, and do its best to maintain appropriate staffing ratios. A room will be closed only in the case of a lack of staff that negatively affects staff-to-child ratios. The ELC will not refund parents due to closures.
Household Contacts If a member of your household tests positive, or your child has been a “close contact” with a COVID-positive person, it is recommended to keep your child home for 5 days and monitor for symptoms. Educators are required to stay home for 5 days in the case of a close contact exposure to COVID-19 and monitor for symptoms.
Vaccinations & Testing All TTELC educators are vaccinated against COVID-19. Any new educators must also be vaccinated prior to being hired. Educators are currently rapid testing twice per week.
Hand Washing & Sanitization Educators and children must wash their hands with soap and water, or hand sanitizer, when entering a classroom and regularly throughout the day. Rooms and common spaces are equipped with sanitizer, spray disinfectant, and gloves.

Daily and weekly sanitising of toys and play surfaces is continually completed by educators and our custodial staff.

Mask Wearing Masks are not mandatory for anyone coming into the building. We will continue to support children wearing them, should parents wish.
Social Distancing While we do not enforce COVID-specific capacity restrictions and distancing, we do work to avoid overcrowding when able.
Pick Up & Drop Off Please continue to buzz in at the front of the building before entering. At this time, parents will be walking their children to their room.

We will re-evaluate guidelines at the beginning of each month to maintain best practices and the safest environment for your children.

While provincial mandates change over time, TTELC will continue to implement a cautious approach and enforce the above practices until further notice. Communication with parents is key – if you have any questions, please contact the TTELC Director.
